1997 CES Embassy
I obtained the RSA/CELTA through a course taught by English International (San Francisco) |

1998-2001 Talk International, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Reason for leaving: decline in business due to 9/11

I worked for four years in Charter schools and the public school system
Substitute teacher in the Broward Public School system (Arthur Ashe, Fort Lauderdale High, College Academy, Stranahan, Sunrise Middle, Virginia Young Montessori)

Hallandale Adult Community Center
Downtown Academy (middle school)

2005 I began subbing at CES Embassy Language Center on Las Olas Blvd. and I have worked largely in the Business and Summer programs.

I am currently working one morning a week at Embassy.
I use computers and video cameras in the classroom (if students don’t want to be on camera, I point the camera at a web site and ask the student to describe what is on the screen). I give my students CDs and DVDs to use in their follow-up work. My method of teaching is influenced by the small-school advocate Dennis Littky bigpicture.org, who asks his teachers to link the class work with “real” homework in the outside world. Examples of this sort of work include taking students to mentor younger English speakers in the local city school. My blog gives examples of these activities. |
